A feudal-inspired castle
The Chaumont sur Loire estate has been owned by the Centre Region since 2008. The estate includes the Château de Chaumont, its park and stables.
Originally a fortress designed to protect Blois, the château overlooks a part of the Loire that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After being destroyed and rebuilt several times (until 1913), the Château de Chaumont and its 21-hectare park are now dedicated to art and culture.
Cultural events at the château
Every year, Chaumont plays host to renowned cultural events such as the International Garden Festival and temporary exhibitions at the Centre d'Arts et de Nature: modern art installations, photography and international creations.
Visits to the estate
The château and grounds are open to visitors every day of the year. Here are some of the highlights: Catherine de Médicis' private flats, the cedar alley, the stables (the most modern in Europe when they were built in 1877), the dog cemetery and the Goualoup garden. The Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire is located near Onzain and Candé-sur-Beuvron, between Amboise and Blois in the Loir-et-Cher department. It takes 20 minutes to get there by car from Blois, following the Loire along the D952.
